Praying Dove, a spiritual leader and medicine woman, tells a captivating story about her tribe’s struggle to keep its traditions intact as the developing world encroaches. In this saga, we enter an enthralling world of adventure where experiencing the peril of the sea is exhilarating; climbing the steep, oxygen-deprived slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro is awe-inspiring; utilizing ancient ways of healing is the only hope for one man’s survival; and finding true love has the power to transform lives. This literary sensation is a riveting tale of exploration, corruption, love, and death.

Praise for Praying Dove

Phyllis Jo Arnold’s Praying Dove artfully weaves together page-turning plot lines of love, sailing, mountain climbing, treasure hunting, and political intrigue to present an epic-like story of the Corn People’s transition from a mythopoeic to a modern world. Along the way, its impressionistic landscape blurs boundaries among things, nature, and people, sweeping one up into a world larger than the temporal self. Like John Keats’ Grecian urn, the novel’s many poetic passages “dost tease us out of thought,” promising hope and bringing light to a world grown dark beneath a black cloud of materialism. Arnold reminds us that stories can have magic and that, most importantly, their magic matters.

Praying Dove was a pleasure to read with every word so delicately chosen. The story is full of relatable characters and tangible emotions. The journey was awe-inspiring and Arnold’s voice of gentle inner peace flows between each page.
